Reasons

So here’s what I got, the reasons why our family might still work out

  1. Because my sister made a crochet cactus for me before I moved out, even though I have not been much of a sister these past few years.

  2. Because when I was five years old I asked my father if I was going to die, and he said no.

  3. Because my mother spends time looking for films that I might like, the old silvery ones that are hard to find for free, so that we will have something to talk about.

  4. Because my sister seems too big for her body these days, like her skin cannot hold her. Because she is almost taller than me and that twists my heart so.

  5. Because each day my father spends five minutes in his car before coming back inside.

  6. Because he comes back.

  7. Because there is still a faint scar in between the tendons on my right hand

That I will not say how I received, but it makes my mother wince.

  8. Because my mother did not talk to me for a month after I left and because I did not talk to her.

    But let’s forget about that.

  9. Because I come back home in one, two, three, four days.

Because there must still be time to fix everything.

  10. Because we once shared the same heart, the same skin, the same body, the same mind.

Because I can still feel your heartbeat in my veins, my blood, my pulse.

  11. And when I was little and obsessed with the TV show Avatar the Last Airbender, my parents took me to see

the 2009 James Cameron Avatar movie

Because they could not read the description

and thought the two were the same thing.
